Elections of members of the Bureau of the National Assembly took place this Thursday, 15th March 2019 during a plenary session at the hemicycle in Yaounde. At the end of the process, Honourable Cavayé Yéguié Djibril was re-elected as House Speaker with 118 votes out of 138 votes cast composing 20 empty ballots.
Member of Parliament from Mayo-Sava Division in the Far North Region of Cameroon was born on 1st January 1940 at Mada in Tokombéré sub division of the Maya Sava Division. He is also Traditional Ruler (Lamido) of Mada.
The astute politician is member Political Bureau of Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM).
Regional Centre for Sports and Physical Education from 1960 to 1963, he worked as a teacher in Maroua. He grew in his career to become a Senior Administration Secretary.
Cavayé Yéguié Djibril joined politics and was first elected to the National Assembly in 1973 under the Cameroon National Union following the creation of a unitary state. He was made Questor in the Bureau of the National Assembly. He also became member of the Central Committee of (CNU).
In 1983 he climbed to Second Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly. When President Paul Biya transformed the CNU into the CPDM in 1985 Cavayé was again appointed as member of the Central Committee of the CPDM.
In 1988 left the National Assembly to serve in the government as Prefectural Assistant of Diamaré. During the March 1992 parliamentary election, He returned to the National Assembly. The same year he was elected as Speaker. Since then he Since then he systematically been re-elected marking him the longest serving Speaker of Cameroon’s lower house of parliament.
The Parliamentarian and Lamido) of Mada has been described by his colleagues as a man of outstanding leadership qualities who has succeeded to maintain constitutional legality and calm at the National Assembly. Following his re-election he told MPs that his 26th mandate at the help of the National Assembly coincides with the 26th birth of his last son. He urged MPs to work for peace and fraternity especially as the country looks forward to legislative and other elections in about six months.
